On behalf of our faculty, staff, students and trustees, welcome to Burlington College! As you review our catalog, you’ll learn that we are a progressive, liberal arts institution with a humanistic, interdisciplinary approach and a commitment to individualized education. You’ll discover that our community-based mission includes a commitment to both our local and our global community, inclusive of people with diverse backgrounds and cultures. You’ll understand that we are Burlington’s College, and as such, reflect the values and principles that are synonymous with our beautiful city, as well as the state of Vermont.
You’ll find information on Cinema Studies & Film Production, Transpersonal Psychology, Writing & Literature, Inter-American Studies, and many more majors, along with our certificate programs and the Institute for Civic Engagement. And you’ll notice you have the option to attend classes on-campus, through our low-residency Independent Degree Program, or a combination of the two. You’ll see that Burlington College offers a rigorous academic program with many opportunities to merge theory and practice and to discuss history, arts, culture and the relevant issues of the day.
You will find a great deal of information about Burlington College in this catalog and on our website. But I encourage you to come to campus to really discover the unique nature of our school and the people who work and study here. Come and experience firsthand the personal attention our students have come to expect from their advisors and professors. Attend a class or two, all small seminars with an average of 10 students. Participate in one of our public forums or neighborhood events, go out on the lake, take a ride on the bikepath, or walk downtown or to the Waterfront Park. Join students in the digital editing lab, at a career day with professionals in the fields they are studying, or at one of the many festivals that take place in our city.
Burlington College is the right place for you if you’re interested in a college that treats each student as an individual, nurtures creativity and develops skills in self-directed learning, encourages civic engagement and stewardship of the environment, and fosters open communication and shared responsibility. Come discover the Burlington College difference. And please, take a moment to stop by my office to say hello!
Sincerely,
Jane O’Meara Sanders, Ph.D.
